Jonny excelled in music at Christ's Hospital, a school where he was nurtured and encouraged. He debuted aged 15 with Bahrain Jazz Quartet in the Middle East. Legendary cornetist Phil Mason first heard him busking on the London Underground, which led to tours throughout Europe with Max Collie Rhythm Aces aged 18. Jonny left Max's band to study at Leeds College of Music, where he sailed through his Graduate Diploma in Jazz & Contemporary Music with Honours!

While in Leeds he won the Yorkshire TV Young Jazz Player of the Year award - judges of which included John Dankworth and Chris Barber.

Jonny returned to London in 1998 where he performed with bands such as Phil Mason's New Orleans All Stars, Pasadena Roof Orchestra, King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys, Ginger Pig Band & TJ Johnson Band. He has also played alongside Ken Peplowski, Roy Hargrove, John Dankworth, Chris Barber, Georgie Fame and Jamie Cullum.

In 2008 he moved to The Netherlands and this was where he re-committed his life to Jesus Christ. Between 2010 - 2021 he was active at Crossroads International Church in Amsterdam where he regularly led worship. He was also often involved in the music ministry at The Tabernacle - a small prayer house in the red light district. His family are presently attending Gemeente Shamar in The Hague, which meets on Shabbat.

In 2011 he formed the jazz gospel group Jonny & the Jazzuits. Their 1st album Psalms, Hymns & Spiritual Songs (2015) was nominated for a Zilveren Duif Award. Their 2nd album Temporary Accommodation (2017) has received much acclaim including CD Of The Week at Groot Nieuws Radio (The Netherlands national Christian radio station). A 3rd release, the EP 'Good Medicine' was successfully funded and brought out in 2021. Their latest album Songs of Deliverance was released to a full house at C. in Hoofddorp on 27 October 2023.

In 2019 he restarted Jonny Boston Quartet - a group of the finest jazz musicians in The Netherlands. Expect to see them appearing throughout Europe performing at both traditional and mainstream jazz festivals and clubs.

Jonny was also a member of The Revivalists - a new orleans style traditional jazz band from 2012 - 2019!
