This album from Jonny shows how he has developed into a mature talent and become among the most creative young musicians/vocalists on the European jazz scene.

Without falling into the trap of compromising to reach a wider audience, he has retained his integrity as a jazzman honed by over 15 years paying his musical dues. He emerges here a confident instrumentalist, of which I heard hints of when we jammed together while I toured the Gulf with the British All-Stars sometime in the late 80s. We were impressed by his youthful talent then.

It's satisfying to see such promise realised in this tightly arranged, hard swinging quartet setting. Just listen to the evergreen The Way You Look Tonight, giving full reign to Jonny's stylish approach with his robust sax and pleasantly smooth voice. A simpatico rhythm section of Pete Whittaker, James Fenn and John Perry, give perfect support. Listen to Jonny's polished interpretation of Dexter Gordon's Cheesecake and you'll feel his musical roots - a lofty aspiration achieved, and there's more to come!
